Robert's Day

Roberts Day was established at Camp Horseshoe in 1934 to honor Associate Justice Owen J. Roberts.  Roberts earned the Silver Beaver Award for his leadership in raising funds for Horseshoe Scout Reservation.  "Roberts Day" and the "Roberts Award" continued into the 1980's.

This article in the February 1944 Trail Blazer, announced the troops earning the Roberts' Award that year. 

19 Troops to Receive the Roberts Award

The Owen J. Roberts Av/ard is made annually
to those Troops having a well-balanced, sustained
Advancement Program, completing the year with
not more than forty-five percent Tenderfoot Scouts
and not less than twenty-five percent First Class
Scouts enrolled.

Nineteen Troops have met these requirements
and will receive the award.

with them our congratulations!

THE ROBERTS AWARD

The Hon. Owen J. Roberts Award for 1945 will be awarded to
each Troop of the Chester County Council having sixty percent or more,
of its Scouts attending Horseshoe for one or more weeks. The Award
will include an appropriate Certificate for the Troop and an emblem for
each Scout that qualifies.

The facilities at Horseshoe are limited. Scoutmasters are urged to
reserve a Period for the Troop well in advance. A reservation must be
accompanied with individual Scout applications. Adult Scout Leaders
are assigned to the Camp Staff supervising their own Troop, and are not
required to pay the camp fee.

The following description of the Roberts Award appeared in the April 1952 issue of the Trail Blazer.

THE "ROBERTS' AWARD"

The Hon. Owen J. Roberts'Award for 1952 will be awarded
to each Explorer Post or Scout Troop of the Chester
County Council having sixty percent, or more of Its
Scouts attending Horseshoe for one or more weeks. The
Award will include an appropriate Certificate for the
Unit and an emblem for each Scout that qualifies. Membership
figures based upon June 30th registration.
